    1. Yes, Cruikshank's illustration are excellent. The whole book is.. I couldn't afford the entire thin-print edition of Dickens' complete works at the time. So I opted for the London Sketches.
49 years later, this book is definitely amongst my top 100.

  2. It's Dickens' birth anniversary, the perfect day to reread a chapter or two of a favorite.

    1. That's what I thought and did, Mimi; which is why it took a while to notice you once again got trapped in the dungeons of the spam folder. So glad my magic skills again were able to free you. ;-)

    1. I do always enjoy now and then to re-read some chapters in this lovely book, Mark, and am quite sure you'd like it, too.
As for 'The Count of Monte Cristo'. I wonder if I lend it someone who forgot to give it back. If so, it happened many years ago, as one day for 'certain reasons' I decided not to lend books anymore.
There might once be a public village-library, though, after I've moved to my last dwelling six feet under.
