Did you curtsey?
By no means.See, as a boy, a very little boy, I was taught / told to bow in front of adult people, especially in front of "important people". "Einen Diener machen" it was called. "Mach einen Diener. / Oh, was für einen feinen Diener hat der Junge gemacht."Well, when being eleven or twelve I became aware of what "einen Diener machen" means. And I decided: I am no one's Diener / servant; I am no one's subalterne / inferior. And since I would not bow in front of anybody, just because s/he's a "very important person". Neither would I curtsey. :)
I didn't think so :)
They should not have called it "Diener". :)
Vintage years.May she rest in peace.
Poor rich woman, hm?Certainly she would have prefered to live in peace.
