This year, for a change, slugs are invading Seanhenge. Strawberry time over, now they do prefer the leaves of young dahlias. |
Now
there are quite a few (cruel) methods to get rid of slugs. However, each evening Mrs. J. and I are collecting as many as we can find (and seldom we do find less than 50),and then . . . |
. . . I do give them a
lift of two or three kilometre.Sentimental? Stupid even? Not sure. All I know is that I don't like to kill them. |
I don't like to kill them either. But you have to make sure you move them to a far away location or... the same ones come back!!
ReplyDeleteI think a few kilometres are far enough.
DeleteWhy not leave them alone? They will attract nice things that eat them. Balance will tip back towards equilibrium (though not without damage to the imbalanced strawberries and dahlias perhaps). Or you could try eating them, but we considerately leave ours for the hedgehogs they may have attracted.
ReplyDeleteAs there are no "nice things" around that eat them I think we are more generous than our neighbours.
DeleteLong life to Seanhenge slugs!
ReplyDeleteWell, not in Seanhenge, though.
