The chosen metaphor probably depends on each beholder's mood in the very moment. I'd like to know what the leaf feels, itself. And the tree. I'd like to know what they are talking about, in case they do.
Far from being a treehugger, I find the idea "interesting" that like cats, cows and other creatures leaves, trees and Earth are also afflicted with the ability to feel ... certain bipeds' callous stupidity ... (not) to survive.

The leaf feels nothing, the tree feels nothing, the Earth feels nothing... We, however, are afflicted with the ability to feel.
