Books everywhere. On the shelves and on the small space above the rows of books and all along the floor and under chairs, books that I have read, books that I have not read.
What matters is the imaginative truth.
Ordinary life bypassed me, but I also bypassed it. It couldn't have been any other way. Conventional life and conventional people are not for me.
Love . . . is like nature, but in reverse; first it fruits, then it flowers, then it seems to wither, then it goes deep, deep down into its burrow, where no one sees it, where it is lost from sight, and ultimately people die with that secret buried inside their souls.
We hide the truer part of ourselves when we love.
I always want to be in love, always. It’s like being a tuning fork.
Vaig conèixer i llegir Edna O'Brien, a través d'un dels teus posts. De mioment, només un llibre.
ReplyDeleteM'agraden molt les teves reflexions i comentaris. Et citaré una frase que trobo molt encertada d'un autor català, a qui vaig admirar molt i de qui he llegit més llibres que de cap altre autor.

Ah, 'Trilogía las Chicas del Campo' seems to be the only book translated into Català. I started to like her when reading her short stories. Well, and in case "The Little Red Chairs" (2015) and 'Girl' become translated into Català: I do highly recommend both.
DeleteOf Manuel de Pedrolo to my surprise no book has been translated into German, moreover: there does not even exist a German Wikipedia entry.

La trilogia de les noies del camp, la vaig trobar a la biblioteca en castellà. Buscaré els dos que em recomanes a verue si hi són en castellà o en francès.
DeleteManuel de Pedrolo, ha estat sempre tan silenciat i poc promocionat, com el poder ha pogut. Sempre va anar a contracorrent, en tots els aspectes. Molt independentista, en un moment que no ho era ningú, molt d'esquerres, molt poc respectuós amb la religió i la moral establerta. Té una obra molt extensa entre novel·les, teatre i articles. Escrivia en temps de dictadura i va ser molt censurat. Va morir el 1990. Llegir les seves històries, quan jo era joveneta, representava obrir la ment a altres maneres de viure i de verue les coses. Quina llàstima que no hagi arribat a l'alemany.
