Beers & Books (436) – Relations Courier 1705

1705. That's how far back
Germany's probably oldest still-existing daily newspaper can look.
And it sometimes reads like it. ;-)
Nevertheless, I'm happy and grateful I was given this copy some time ago.
Reading it reinforced my belief
that war has probably always been the preferred method of those in power.

    1. Even the most peaceful person cannot live in peace if this displeases a wicked neighbour.

    1. That's how it is. On a large scale and on a small one. I'll never forget how, after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the poorest of the poor, living in tents, kept surviving orphans like slaves, forcing them to attend to them in every way—three-, four-, five-year-old children who had lost their parents. ... So it's not just the rich and powerful. Even the poorest of the poor often still look for someone they can treat like masters. Perverse!!
      Abraçades, Carme!!

    1. I often wish I were a humble gardener with love for literature who does ignore all "news".
But alas! Once a newsman, always a newsman.
