Coffeetime with young García Márquez

The "Giraffe aus Barranquilla"
comprises 82 journalistic works by García Márquez
written between 1948 and 1952.
"La Girafa" was the title of a column
that the then 22-year-old regularly wrote
for the Colombian daily newspaper "El Heraldo".
Many of the short glosses and literary sketches,
in which he processed everyday experiences,
paved the way for his later work.

Beers & Books LXXI – Gabriel García Márquez

In journalism just one fact
that is false prejudices the entire work.
In contrast,
in fiction one single fact that is true
gives legitimacy to the entire work
That's the only difference,
and it lies in the commitment of the writer.
A novelist can do anything he wants
so long as he makes people believe in it.
