Sometimes one has to be cruel

Yesterday, watching an interview with Marlene Dumas on her exhibition Measuring Your Own Grave, the last sentence read:

"You have to be cruel - against yourself ... and others."

And I thought by myself: Hm. Yes. Sometimes.
