A couple of weeks ago I read a fascinating article about the Russian mathematician Grigori Perelman who solved a previously insoluble problem presented in 1904. After providing proofs he refused all awards and returned to Russia where he's been incommunicado ever since. On occasion it seems there are a few who prefer to step away.
