  1. Irish history is a deep and chequered one that I still can't quite figure out. His humble dwelling reminds me of the Highland clearances.

    1. All history is deep and chequered and nobody will ever figure it out, I suggest.

    2. Sometimes I was told I knew more about Ireland and its history than most Irish themselves.
All I could reply was that I felt the more I learned the less I knew.

  2. Brilliant "the more I learn the less I know" thats where I am with it. A lot of History you can kind of make some sense of and get a good handle on it but Ireland - when you think you're getting somewhere you soon realise you're not. Apparently JamesI gave away huge swathes of Catholic land after the gunpoder plot which some say is the route of the troubles.

    1. I have not studied the history at all really but is the root of the troubles not the English invasion of Ireland in 1169?

    2. mmm that would be Henry II, I always thought that. I suppose it has taken many twists and turns. From that era Henry II gave us the saying 'Beyond the pale'
