Re getting lost in names: My loveliest Christmas present when I was ten was Schwab's "Gods and Heroes of Ancient Greece". So fascinating, but all these names!!!
Ah, here's a blast from the past. The first Russian writer I read. TGA was quite the eye-opener for my naive young self. But I agree with Elephant's Child, the names were an additional challenge.
When reading Solzhenitsyn I did not know that one day much higher than him I would esteem Varlam Shalamov and his Kolyma Tales. And not because of "the names".
His novels are not an easy read - but worth the effort. I do get lost in the names though. My bad.
