Apart from its presumed autobiographical character, it probably reflects the intellectual, political and personal crises of many writers and artists between the World Wars. Hi Sean - how sad ... I know lots of people 'get down' after the effects of war - my father for one ... so difficult. What a challenging book to read ... and yes knowing friends in similar states - an important book to read for those with an interest. Thank you for reminding us that people do chart their own crises. It's a brilliantly written book, published in 1930, Hilary. Praised be Guggolz, who since 2014 has been publishing new translations of works by authors from the first half of the 20th century from Northern and Eastern Europe that "due to the political conditions of the 20th century" have fallen into oblivion.
