  1. Beer and the whisky tonight? In Glasgow they call that a "hauf an hauf" (English: half and half), although the beer should only be a half pint with the measure "nip" of whisky, presumably also called a half as it is a single measure not a more acceptable double (but taken on repeat all evening, of course, by saying, repeatedly "Ah'll hauf anither hauf an hauf", until it is time for the constabulary to insist you leave). As for the book, as usual I have no idea.

    1. Ah, a wake without whisk(e)y wouldn't be a real wake, would it?
As for half pints. I vividly remember that once having a few pints at "The Black Bull" in Dalmellington, I heard someone order a half pint on his way to the loo, and being sneered at by another toper: "Ronnie is a wimp, isn't he?"

    2. But as part of a "hauf an hauf" a hauf pint is perfectly acceptable (in Glasgow and other parts West of Scotland, not so much in Perth and definitely not in Edinburgh).

    3. And I have never been to Dalmellington. Should I go? What took you there?

    4. I remember coming via Kilmarnock, Alloway and Ayr it was time to find an accommodation. To cut it short, after an unforgettable night driving through Carrick Forest to Newtown Stewart was a heartbalm. Loch Doon, The Machars ("Booktown" Wigtown, Bladnoch Distillery), Drumfries, some castles on the way to find a lovely B&B in Moffat.
So, you may not feel tempted to visit Dalmellington, but the area around Galloway Forest Park, which since has become a dark sky preserve, is worth a visit.

    5. Yes, we drove through Galloway Forest Park to accommodation in lovely Portpatrick and a visit to Mull of Galloway a couple of years ago

  2. Blasted blogger frequently hides your posts from me. If ever I fail to comment please attribute the blame to blogger before me.
I like the idea of a wake - but will pass on the whisky (and beer). Wine for me, but the sentiments would not alter.

    1. That is strange Sue as I never have that problem, I wonder if it is linked to the browser you use? I use Chrome.

    2. It seems to be related to New Blogger. My reading list now gets updated erratically at best. Which means I miss some posts.

    3. As I am no follower of anyone or anything, I can't really contribute. Anyway, the new Blogger version is certainly an improvement for the worse.

  3. Yes I have a similar problem. It says the above was posted fifteen hours ago but I was on my tablet a couple of hours ago and there was nothing. I just put things down to me not being tech!
