"Nowadays the rage for possession has got to such a pitch that there is nothing in the realm of nature, whether sacred or profane, out of which profit cannot be squeezed."
Erasmus of Rotterdam (28 October 1469 – 12 July 1536)
Jordi Savall * 1 August 1941
Very tuneful and musically solid. Some exquisite instruments. This composer could have been an inspiration for Monreverdi (1567 - 1643)
ReplyDeleteJordi Savall's work is admirable.
DeleteAs for Erasmus: Even more than by the music I am amazed by the quote.
Erasmus would be shocked that nearly half a millennia later, the situation hasn't changed one jot.
ReplyDeleteHe certainly would, Lady Pipistrello. As would Novalis who about 225 years ago in view of an "accelerating celerity" (Schnellebigkeit) commended his contemporaries to exercise slowness.
DeleteAfter a period of 'writers block' I've bounced back with poemblog28.blogspot.com quite an electic mix really. Hope you enjoy it when you have time, Marky.
ReplyDeleteWhen yesterday night visiting "Graemsay", afterwards I immediately switched to the site.
DeleteLooks good. As soon as there is a little more leisure upon me I shall dive deeper.
