Unforgettable Carlos Saura

¡Esa Luz! / This Light!

In one of his late interviews, Carlos Saura asked that when he died, no one should remember him. It was only important for him to be remembered as long as he lived.
Ah, Señor Saura, this wish will remain unfulfilled.
Thanks a lot. Rest in peace.

  1. Un dels millors directors del nostre cinema, era un gran expert en esquivar la censura franquista. Amb tot el seu treball, serà molt complicat que ningú pensi en ell.

  2. Now that i think about it, being remembered after your dead could bring many of us an uncomfortable pause. After all, you never know what people will say and you certainly won't be there to defend yourself if what they say is unpleasant.

    1. As far as nasty obituaries are concerned, being dead is certainly an advantage. ;-)

  3. Without light, their would be no visual art... That's for sure ;-)
Saura was one of my favorite Spanish filmdirectors.
I especially love his version of Bizet's "Carmen" and ofcourse "Salomé". The way he captured Flamenco dansers is unprecedented... May his soul find peace...

    1. Ah, Paco de Lucia's music in "Carmen"! Almost a little more I liked Mama Turns 100.
Re ¡Esa Luz! (German: Dieses Licht!): In his first novel, published in 2000, Saura returned to the subject of the Spanish Civil War and created a literary film in reader's mind.
      Excellent.
