  1. While I look forward to these posts you frequently shame/humble me. I read. A lot. Literature, comfort reads, agreeable trash, biographies, memoirs... Your reading seems much more selective and focused than mine.

    1. He drinks widely and copiously too Sue. A man of many (well, at least two) parts.

    2. Why would I come to think of a quote my friend Claude sent me one day? A.S.W. Rosenbach: "After love, book collecting is the most exhilarating sport of all."
Andrew might find (there is at least) a "third part" of mine. ;-)
Yes, my reading has – almost from the very beginning – been selective. Looking back, I focused about 20 years mainly on Irish, English and, in parts, North American literature, then for a while on African, on Latin American and the various European literature and poetry; Scandinavian, French, Russian, Dutch, Italian, Spanish etc. etc..
And – I think I mentioned it earlier – so far, I have been lucky: From all the books I bought in my life, I consider(ed) less than a handful not worth the money.
It's a wonderful realm, the realm of the letters.
