I would never have believed that was by Shostakovich. A perfectly charming piece. Is there some theme to these YouTube posts or just serendipity at work? Confused, as usual.
Do you see me smiling, jmb? Yes, apart from that I do like the posted songs/pieces, one would not be wrong to think there is a / are theme(s) to these. Space for interpretation, anyway. :)
I like his work. I have his 1rst, 5th, 7th and 9th symphonies and a few of his other pieces as well. I feel his work was under-rated and much of the criticism politically tainted affecting viewpoints still today.
Janice, so your ears are connoisseurs, too. :) As for your feeling, Shostakovich's work was under-rated. Well, Rostropowich considered it a 'secret history of Russia', for Blumenstein it's 'the apolyptic soundtrack to the 20th century'. Thus, there is still hope. :)
Jams, it's a catchy tune. I do quite frequently find myself whistling the melody.
