Hm, am I?

You're Siddhartha!

by Hermann Hesse

You simply don't know what to believe, but you're willing to try
anything once. Western values, Eastern values, hedonism and minimalism, you've spent
some time in every camp. But you still don't have any idea what camp you belong in.
This makes you an individualist of the highest order, but also really lonely. It's
time to chill out under a tree. And realize that at least you believe in
ferries.

  1. I wish I could sum people up with 5 simple questions.

I do not think that I am Anne of Green Gables?
    :)

  2. SH,
    not sure I am.
As a boy I was fascinated when reading 'Siddartha' and the other Hesse novels. I do like trying not all, but many things. I am probably an 'individualist of the highest order', but:
I'd never let lure me in any camp, I do not feel lonely, I am often 'chilling' under trees, and I'd definitively not believe in 'ferries'. Rather in fairies. :)

    Anne ... err ... Ardent,
it is all SH's fault. He lured :) me to try it myself.

As for tests of this kind:
today I made two - my first and the last. :)

    The Guns of August!
    by Barbara Tuchman
Though you're interested in war, what you really want to know is what causes war. You're out to expose imperialism, militarism, and nationalism for what they really are. Nevertheless, you're always living in the past and have a hard time dealing with what's going on today. You're also far more focused on Europe than anywhere else in the world. A fitting motto for you might be "Guns do kill, but so can diplomats."

I did read it long ago but I don't care for the summary.

This is stupid, she says, stamping off in a huff.

  4. I loved Hesse. I must try re-reading teh Glas Bead Game and Steppenwolf. As for me I am 1984. I am outraged... NO Flann O' Brien?

  6. Ha ha, jmb,
just trying to imagine you stamping off in a huff.

    Jams,
suppose they just don't offer to give 'Flannish replies'. - 1984 for you?! Perhaps you should tell Crushed what one has to select to get this result. :)
    As for Hesse:
Thirty years ago I read almost his complete work. At that time I liked 'Narcissus and Goldmund' best. :) Today it's rather Steppenwolf'.

    James,
I am almost sure there occurred a little orthographic problem. Spelling 'fairies' is not that easy, would you agree. :)

    Hans,
you would not have tried all possible answers to the questions of this most challenging scientific test, would you? :)
