“Man is not an omnipotent master of the universe, allowed to do with impunity whatever he thinks, or whatever suits him at the moment. The world we live in is made of an immensely complex and mysterious tissue about which we know very little and which we must treat with utmost humility.” |
Ah... How good (both, but especially Havel). A wonderful quote that I have not heard before. Of course I have to admit that I haven't read him, other than some journalistic articles and brief quotes, but now, at last, I am thinking that I should. I feel the world needs him even more now that he has gone.
ReplyDeleteThe book above contains 17 speeches he held in 1990 and 1991 at various occasions. Each remarkable.
DeleteTherefore: Yes, unfortunately he cannot celebrate his 84th birthday today, but those speeches remain. I am thankful.
How I wish that more people were aware of the truth of those words. Our self entitled greed is responsible for a lot of things. Very little (none that I can think of) good.
ReplyDeleteI suppose not many will come to read those words – too many charakters for smombies (smartphone zombies).
