Beers & Books XXIII

The Grammar of Fantasy
The art of imagining stories

  1. Imaginary beer does not appeal to me (o........). You will be able to imagine the contents of the parenthesis, I am sure. As for the glass, rather than considering it empty I would optimistically consider it about to be filled. The book does not sound like my "cup of tea" (or glass of beer). Thankfully my Innis & Gunn (The Original and Blood Red Sky, 330 ml of each) is in real bottles in the real fridge, which, despite what some physicists and philosophers may say about the illusory nature of reality, will be real enough for me this evening.

    1. I was sure your fantasy would be able to fill the glass. I could even see the giraffe sipping the froth.
And I am trying to imagine how often you will open your fridge, tonight.

    2. Suffice to say, there is no beer left in the fridge now. Goodnight. I only ever purchase supplies for one evening - my lack of willpower and common sense makes events take an unfortunate (if briefly pleasant) turn otherwise.

    3. You are neither stockpiling then these day, nor foraging, hoarding and panic buying?
I bought four bottles of Disaronno today; but that's a story for another day.
The peace of the night, my friend.

    1. The Dapple is my brave donkey, dear Don. And yes, we are ready to tilt any windmill in your's and Rocinante's wind shadow.

  3. I could not even sip "imaginary" beer. Totally uncomfortable with taste and smell. But if you offer me a small Disannora, I would say "Cheer" with both of you. Although I prefer French wines to any alcoholic drinks you have ever mentioned so far.

    1. Now then Claude... If Sean and I said "We are coming to Toronto to visit you but only if you sit at your table like a good beer buddy and drink beer with us...", what would you say?

  4. I would not hesitate and would order, "Molson Beer"...the Quebec favorite beer, drank by my great grandfather, and ever since. Family tradition!

    1. Ah... a nice meeting to imagine. If I win the UK lottery this evening I will hope to get Sean and me over there before the end of November... (well, not if I only win £10, which I often do, but I did win £870 once; though my proposal was more based on the jackpot of a million or more...).

    2. Although Covid travel rules would scupper that dream eh, meantime. Bah...

    3. Molson Beer sounds most inviting. As for a win in lottery: More likely seems that Tetrapilotomos invents a the very wormhole I am asking him for on this and that occasion.

    4. Dreaming of Time Travel....When we were all a bit younger, and in joyful, healthy, peaceful years!

    5. We would have to dream the peace(ful years), though, too.

    1. Indeed it does Cherie. Pull up a chair and join us for a beer...

    2. Or perhaps a glass of chilled Rose wine :-)

    3. Ach, why not let Claude and CherryPie have, what the ladies prefer.
Time's been flying, indeed. There were some very interesting and some hilarious conversations ten, eleven years ago.
